As a general rule, books may be renewed unless:

• Someone has placed a recall or a hold on the book
• You have reached your maximum number of renewals for the item
• Books that are checked out for three weeks have a limit of three renewals
• Books that are checked out until the end of the semester have a limit of two renewals

Renewals for books from the Mardigian, and for books received through MeLCat (green bands), may be requested in person at the Library Info Desk, online through your library account, or by contacting the library.

Renewal requests for books that have been borrowed from other University of Michigan libraries (white bands) should be submitted here.

Renewal requests for books borrowed through InterLibrary Loan (blue bands) should be submitted through ILLiad.

Certain items, including bound journals & periodicals, course reserves, and most loanable technology cannot be renewed. These items should be returned to the library by their due date to avoid fines and fees.

• Exception: Chromebooks may be renewed up to two times, as long as no one has placed a hold

Log into your library account and click on "items currently checked out"

• To renew all currently checkout items: click on the button that says "Renew All"
• To renew certain items: select items by clicking the checkbox on the left-hand side, then click on the button that says "Renew Selected"

When asked, confirm that you would like to renew the items that are shown. Wait for the confirmation screen -- this will let you know if your renewal request(s) were successful. For successful renewals, the new due date will be calculated from the day that your renewal request was submitted.

Any items that cannot be renewed should be returned to the library by their due date to avoid fines and fees.
