Place a Hold

Holds

Need a book from the library? Place a hold request and you will be notified when it is available for pick-up.

  • Log into your library account
  • Find the item using Mardigian Search or "Search the Catalog"
  • Click on the item, then click on the Request button at the top of the screen
  • Wait for the confirmation screen before closing the window
  • Once a hold request has been placed, it will be processed within 48 hours Sunday-Thursday, and within 3-4 days Friday-Saturday
    • If the item is currently checked out to someone else, your request will be filled once the item is returned
    • You can view all of your current requests by logging into your library account and clicking on the link listed under "Circulation Information"
    • Requests are only processed on days when the library is open (view current hours)

Please note: Faculty and staff that would like Mardigian Library items delivered to their office should place their requests using the delivery request form.

Picking up your item

  • You will be notified by email when the item is ready to be picked up at the Library Info Desk
    • Please note -- the Mardigian Library sends all notices to your UMich email address
  • Items can be picked up at the Library Info Desk whenever the library is open (view current hours). You will need to bring your valid MCard in order to pick up and check out your item
  • Once an item is ready to be picked up, it will remain at the Library Info Desk for 7 days. If the item is not picked up within 7 days, your hold will be canceled.

Please note:

  • Some items, including special collections (e.g. Quigley Historic Juvenile), archival materials, and CEHHS Curriculum Knowledge Center materials may not be requestable
  • If a requested item is missing from the shelf, you will be notified by email
